Prevent Premature Greying

Yoga for Healthy and Beautiful Hair

Yoga is beneficial for our body in many ways, including helping resolve thinning hair, greying hair, hairfall and other hair problems. It improves blood flow to the scalp and release stress, which is one of the major reasons for hair and scalp issues.

CAUSES OF GREYING

White hair is caused due to the deficiency of melanin, or the color pigment in the hair. This pigment is made of a protein that is synthesized by special glands known as melanocytes. Grey hair are also caused by protein deficiency, thyroid conditions, excessive trauma and stress, depression and insomnia, nutritional deficiencies like anemia, Grave’s disease and early menopause in women.

YOGA AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN DELAYING PREMATURE GREYING

Individuals who perform yoga and pranayama are much less susceptible to grey hair because yoga helps us improve digestion and metabolism allowing the protein to be synthesized in a better manner. Yoga keeps the body fit and strong and helps in production of melanin.

Pranayama increases the amount of blood flow to the cells and supplies enough oxygen, thus producing melanin which helps them to retain the moisture and keep the hair black. It also helps in regulating our hormones.

ASANAS TO PREVENT PREMATURE GREYING

Inverted or head stand postures of yoga like Shirshasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana and Adho Mukha Vrksasana helps to increase blood circulation in the scalp and effectively reduce the graying of hair. Surya namaskar has its own effects in amazing ways. Other yoga postures like Ustrasana (Camel Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Adho mukha svanasan (mountain pose) and Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) helps us in relieving stress which prevents whitening of the hair.

Kapalabathi pranayama is a purification exercise which pumps fresh oxygen to scalp and releases all tension and toxins from brain, which in turn strengthens hair roots, stop hair fall and delays premature greying. Anuloma viloma breathing helps rejuvenate the cells and also the melanocytes in our scalp which helps to maintain the pigment of the hair color.
