Benefits of Yoga Counselling in My Experience as a Therapist

As my students and regular readers of my yoga blog would know, I have been concentrating my energies on Therapy Yoga in recent times. This has given me the opportunity to help people with medical conditions improve their health. I have been able to help people overcome their emotional and relationship issues. I have even counselled those who were simply looking to grow and enhance wellbeing.

Navigating through self-limiting thoughts and beliefs.

Some students of my yoga classes have approached me for one on one yoga therapy sessions while others have done so because of word of mouth or testimonials on yogacentral.in. Some have had medical problems that were hard to manage with only medications. Others have had relationship issues to deal with while some have struggled with mental health issues. Then there have been instances where an individual has sought counselling not because of any burdensome problem but simply to unclog blocked energies and enhance wellbeing. My experiences of being able to help people have both elated and humbled me.

One marketing professional who had been a part of my yoga classes for two years decided to opt for Therapy Yoga with me. This was not because of any health or life or emotional issues she had, but because she was interested in knowing how yoga counselling could help her. I was able to help her navigate through mental blocks that she did not even know she had. Together we were able to change a certain outlook that was causing anxiety and discontent in her life. To her credit, she did a lot of the hard work and remained committed to using the tools that she felt empowered by.

In another instance, I was able to help a lady with relationship issues with her husband as well as others in her family. Over our counselling sessions we were able to work on the mental blocks and the self-image issues as well as her expectations of others that were impeding her relationships. I was delighted with her ability to self-sustain, which helped her reembrace her previously floundering marriage. In yet another instance I was able to support the survivor of an abusive marriage – I could help the person emerge from the ordeal and heal.

How yoga therapy and counselling helps reduce pain and manage disease.

I assess each person individually so that I can devise unique ways to help steer through and overcome self-limiting beliefs and behaviours. I also use a customised approach for those who consult me about specific health conditions and other life issues. A lady undergoing IVF cycles was under a lot of stress, which was hampering her efforts at conceiving. Together we were able to confront her inner conflicts. Happily, she went on to conceive naturally!

People have approached me with ailments such as chronic pain, migraine, PCOD, obesity and so on. With the power of yoga therapy and counselling, I have been able to help people change their attitude to food and their own bodies. Many have successfully reduced reliance on pharmaceuticals. You can read about what people have said about my yoga therapy and counselling sessions – these are heartfelt testimonials that encourage as well as humble me.
